The European Council Determines the Composition of the European Parliament

The European Council has issued a Decision on the composition of the European Parliament. The Decision determines the number of representatives to be elected from each member state to the European Parliament for the parliamentary term 2024-2029.
In this Decision, the number of seats in the European Parliament is set at 720, given the demographic changes in EU member states.
According to the Treaty on European Union, the number of members of the European Parliament may not exceed seven hundred and fifty (750), plus the President (+1). Representation is provided on a degressive proportionality basis, with a minimum threshold of six (6) members per member state. No member state can have more than ninety-six (96) seats.
