The European Cancer Imaging Initiative has reached its first significant milestone. The Cancer Image Europe platform now connects 36 datasets with images from 9 types of cancer (breast, colon, lung, prostate, rectal, liver, glioma, neuroblastoma, glioblastoma), totaling over 200,000 imaging series from approximately 20,000 individuals. A first version of the rules that will apply to data providers and users, as well as the platform’s operational procedures, has also been published.
The Initiative aims to create a European federated infrastructure for cancer imaging data to support healthcare providers, research institutes, and innovation entities in making the best possible use of data-driven innovative solutions for cancer diagnosis, treatment, and care, for the benefit of cancer patients.
The first version of this digital infrastructure, delivered as part of the implementation of the relevant project by the European Federation for Cancer Imaging (EUCAIM), includes a public catalog of cancer imaging datasets from repositories of EU-funded projects related to Artificial Intelligence for Health Imaging, as well as a search tool for understanding the information available on data providers’ websites across the EU.
