The Single European Act is Signed

17/2/1986

The Single European Act (SEA) is signed in Luxembourg (and in The Hague on February 28, 1986) by the Foreign Ministers. It includes provisions for cooperation among them on foreign policy issues, reforms for the functioning of community institutions, as well as changes regarding the expansion of community competencies. By creating new community competencies and reforming the institutional bodies, the SEA paves the way for political integration and economic and monetary union, which were enshrined in the Treaty on European Union (the Maastricht Treaty).
