Towards the Appointment of a New Commission President

In a press release from the European Parliament, it is announced that the Conference of Presidents, taking into account the results of the European elections, will proceed with exploratory procedures among the Leaders of the Political Groups of the Body, aiming to determine the next President of the Commission. In this context, Jean-Claude Juncker, as the candidate of the largest Group, is called first in the effort to create a parliamentary coalition, in order to form the necessary qualified majority in the European Parliament. On the same day, the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, called on the Heads of State and Government to discuss, among other things, the results of the European elections as well as the consultations that the European Council should follow with the European Parliament, for the appointment of the new President of the Commission.
