UN and EU Cooperation to Combat Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime

Antonio Maria Costa, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), was in Brussels on September 4, 2008, for talks with Jacques Barrot, Vice President of the European Commission responsible for Justice, Freedom and Security. Among other topics, they discussed the partnership between the EU and the UN in the global fight against drugs, organized crime, and terrorism. The EU and UNODC are increasing mutual efforts and providing joint funding for projects aimed at preventing and controlling addiction, drug production and trafficking, as well as other forms of organized crime in the world.
