8/7/2022

On July 7 and 8, 2022, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and eight members of the College of the European Commission, traveled to New York, United States, to participate in a working meeting with António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) and other senior UN officials. This first-of-its-kind meeting elevated the EU-UN Partnership to the next level.
The Commission and the United Nations discussed the key challenges facing the multilateral order and priority areas for action in the current international context, particularly Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine. They discussed how the EU-UN Partnership can contribute to decisively addressing priority areas such as food security, climate action and biodiversity protection, implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, and digital cooperation.
