On October 4 and 5, 2023, Jutta Urpilainen, European Commissioner for International Partnerships, traveled to Nairobi, Kenya to deepen the bilateral partnership, strengthen engagement with African partners, discuss regional priorities and the implementation of the Global Gateway strategy ahead of the European Union – African Union Ministerial Meeting on November 20, 2023.
On this occasion, the Commissioner participated in the launch of the EU Youth Empowerment Fund, which will provide funding to facilitate youth programs in collaboration with the six largest international youth organizations in the world.
She also visited a flagship Global Gateway project, the Nairobi Electric Bus Rapid Transit Line, where she discussed with young Kenyans about e-mobility, employment opportunities and the future of transport in Kenya, as well as the Kilimani Primary School, where she launched the EU Digital Economy Package for Kenya.
