Visit of Ursula Von Der Leyen, President of the European Commission, to Tunisia

On July 16, 2023, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, traveled to Tunis, Tunisia, along with Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of the Netherlands. In Tunis, they were received by Najla Bouden Romadhane, Prime Minister of Tunisia, and later joined by Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Italy.
Later, Ursula von der Leyen, Mark Rutte, and Giorgia Meloni met with Kaïs Saïed, President of Tunisia, to attend the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding by Olivér Várhelyi, European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, and Mounir Ben Rjiba, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad. The Memorandum of Understanding covers five pillars: macroeconomic stability, trade and investment, green energy transition, people-to-people contacts, and migration. It will be implemented through various areas of cooperation between the European Union and Tunisia, following the relevant regulations and applicable procedures.
Finally, after the signing ceremony, they held a press conference on the main aspects of the Memorandum of Understanding.
