“Wider Europe-Neighbourhood Relations”

In view of the upcoming EU enlargement in 2004, the European Commission issued a Communication titled “Wider Europe-Neighbourhood Relations: A New Framework for Relations with our Eastern and Southern Neighbours”. The Commission states that the interdependence (economic and political) that will result from this enlargement will contribute to stability, security, and sustainable development. This Communication also discusses the new neighbourhood policy with neighbouring countries that do not have the prospect of joining the EU.
