Yaoundé Convention

20/7/1963

The European Community signs its first major international agreement (Yaoundé Convention) aiming to assist 18 former colonies in Africa. In 2005, it establishes a special partnership with 78 African, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP) countries. The EU is the world’s largest donor of development aid to the poorest countries. A prerequisite for providing aid is respect for human rights.
