“Yes” to Accession Negotiations for Denmark, United Kingdom, Ireland and Norway with the Aim of Overcoming Uncertainties, the Commission Supports

Regarding the applications for membership of Denmark, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Norway to the European Communities, the European Commission in a preliminary Opinion states in its conclusions that in the absence of information it is unable to express a final view to the Council on the impact of the above accessions. Nevertheless, it recommends to the Council the opening of negotiations with the above candidate countries in order to overcome any existing uncertainties, especially on certain fundamental issues.
