1979

Signing Ceremony of Greece’s Accession Treaty to the European Communities

On May 28, 1979, in Athens, the Acts for Greece’s accession to the European Communities were signed. Greece would become the 10th member state from January 1, 1981.

2004

Declaration from the EU, Latin America and Caribbean Summit

With the Guadalajara Declaration, the Heads of State and Government of the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean bring back to the forefront the importance of their bi-regional strategic partnership, as agreed in Rio de Janeiro in 1999. At this Summit (Guadalajara, Mexico, May 28-29, 2004), which is the third in succession, they focus on the importance of regional integration while supporting relevant social, political and economic development plans towards this direction.

2008

The European Economic and Social Committee Celebrates its 50th Anniversary

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) marks 50 years since its first Plenary Session. During the commemorative Plenary Session organized in Brussels, its President, Dimitris Dimitriadis, speaks about the role of the EESC as a bridge for consultation between European institutions and civil society regarding the EU legislative process. Additionally, as part of this special Session, discussions were held between young Europeans and EESC members about the challenges facing the EU.

2019

Charlemagne Youth Prize 2019

Europhonica IT, an Italian radio show where young people share their stories and views on Europe, wins the 2019 Charlemagne Youth Prize. The award is given to projects that contribute to promoting understanding between people from various European countries.
