1992

European Council of Lisbon, 26-27/06/1992

The European Council of Lisbon was held under the Presidency of Anibal Cavaco Silva, Prime Minister of Portugal, with the participation of the Heads of State and Government of the European Community. The Lisbon European Council demonstrated the determination to advance the construction of Europe. Progress towards European Union and external relations were the main topics examined during the Council.

1956

Opening of the Intergovernmental Conference on the Common Market and Euratom

The Intergovernmental Conference on the Common Market and Euratom officially begins in Brussels. Belgian Foreign Minister Paul-Henri Spaak chairs the Conference, Italy is represented by Lodovico Benvenuti, Belgium by Jean-Charles Snoy et d’Oppuers, the Federal Republic of Germany by Karl Friedrich Ophüls, France by Maurice Faure, the Netherlands by Johan Linthorst Homan, and Luxembourg by Lambert Schaus.

1990

Dublin European Council (25-26 June)

The Dublin European Council confirmed the need to initiate and conduct two parallel intergovernmental conferences, one on economic and monetary union and another on aspects of political union. The European Council also discussed the issue of Cyprus in light of the deadlock in intercommunal dialogue.

2008

The Spanish Congress Approves the Lisbon Treaty

The ratification of the Lisbon Treaty is approved by the Spanish Congress. The positive votes amounted to 322, the negative votes to 6, while there were also 2 abstentions.
