1978

European Council of Bremen, 06-07/07/1978

On 6 and 7 July 1978, the European Council convened in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. During the second half of 1978, the Federal Republic of Germany held the Presidency of the Council. During this meeting, the Heads of State and Government of the member states of the European Communities examined ways to create an area of monetary stability in Europe.

1981

Resolution of the European Parliament on the Seats of the Institutions

The European Parliament adopts a Resolution regarding the problem of determining a single seat for the institutions of the European Community. Concerning the seat of the European Parliament, it states that until a final decision is made on the single location for its meetings, the Sessions (part-sessions) will be held in Strasbourg and the meetings of committees and political groups will primarily take place in Brussels.

1997

Regulation Council of Fiscal Stability

The Council adopts a Regulation to accelerate and clarify the implementation of the excessive deficit procedure. This Regulation is related to the Stability and Growth Pact and was adopted in view of the third stage of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU).

Council Regulation on the Strengthening of the Surveillance of Budgetary Positions and the Surveillance and Coordination of Economic Policies

This regulation establishes the rules governing the content, submission, examination and monitoring of stability and convergence programmes within the framework of multilateral surveillance by the Council, in order to prevent, at an early stage, the occurrence of excessive government deficits and to promote the surveillance and coordination of economic policies.

1998

First ECB Internal Regulation and Decision on the Euro

The Governing Council of the European Central Bank decides and adopts its first internal regulation. On the same day, it also adopts a decision regarding the denominations, specifications, reproduction, exchange, and withdrawal of euro banknotes.

2020

24 New European Universities

A European university brings together universities from countries across Europe, allowing students, researchers, and other staff to collaborate across borders. During July 2020, 24 new European universities joined the 17 established in 2019, bringing the total number of European universities to 41, involving more than 280 higher education institutions from all over Europe.
