1999

First Press Conference of Romano Prodi, Designated President of the European Commission

On July 9, 1999, Romano Prodi, designated President of the European Commission, presented the new team of European Commission members to be proposed to the European Parliament for approval, along with their portfolios. He also announced an initial restructuring of the Commission’s departments.

1961

Greece-EEC Association Agreement

An Association Agreement is signed between Greece and the European Economic Community (EEC). This Agreement provides for the possibility of Greece’s future accession to the EEC. Greece is the first European country to proceed with signing such an Agreement. Additionally, a related agreement on measures to be implemented to apply the Association Agreement was signed. Finally, a financial protocol agreement was also incorporated into this Agreement, which was signed simultaneously. The Association Agreement was scheduled to be activated on November 1, 1962.

1982

Resolution of the European Parliament on the Accession of Spain and Portugal to the EEC

A Resolution is adopted by the European Parliament, urging the Commission and the Council to expedite the accession negotiations with Spain and Portugal regarding their entry into the European Economic Community (EEC).

Events for Latvia’s Accession to the Eurozone

On the occasion of the expansion of the eurozone, due to Latvia’s adoption of the euro from January 1, 2014, celebratory events are taking place in Brussels.
