2019

Visit of Neven Mimica, Member of the European Commission, to Ethiopia

On July 22, 2019, Neven Mimica, Member of the European Commission responsible for International Cooperation and Development, traveled to Addis Ababa, where he met with Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Ahmed Shide, Minister of Finance of Ethiopia, and Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission.
Neven Mimica, together with Ahmed Shide, signed a budget support program worth 36 million (EUR) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from forestry and industry in Ethiopia. Neven Mimica also signed, along with Moussa Faki Mahamat, the African Peace Facility, which was an agreement to support the African Union in its efforts to promote peace, security, and stability in Africa.

2022

Visit of Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner, to Indonesia

On July 22, 2022, Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for Budget and Administration, traveled to Jakarta, Indonesia. On this occasion, he met with Anggoro Eko Cahyo, President Director of the Indonesian Employment Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan), and representatives from the Indonesian Ministry of Finance to discuss investment opportunities, green and sustainable financing, as well as geopolitical challenges. This visit was part of Johannes Hahn’s trip to Southeast Asia, between July 18 and 23, 2022, to promote the EU’s NextGenerationEU borrowing program, drawing attention to investment opportunities.

1972

The EEC Signs Trade-Economic Agreements with other European Countries

In Brussels, the EEC and Portugal proceed to sign an agreement which provides for the abolition of tariffs on industrial goods and a number of agricultural products. An agreement for closer economic relations was also signed between the EEC and Sweden, as well as with Austria, mainly on issues of gradual removal of barriers regarding their trade relations. Similar trade agreements were signed in parallel with Iceland and Switzerland, and additional protocols with Liechtenstein. Austria, on the same day, signed an agreement with the ECSC which particularly concerns the removal of tariffs on coal and steel products. The above countries were member states of EFTA.

1975

Treaty Amending Certain Budgetary Provisions is Signed

The Treaty amends certain budgetary provisions of the Treaties establishing the European Coal and Steel Community, the European Economic Community, the European Atomic Energy Community, and of the Treaty establishing a Single Council and a Single Commission of the European Communities.
The amendments:
1. Revise the annual budgetary procedure, giving the European Parliament more powers regarding certain expenditures and the right to reject the draft budget of the European Union (EU);
2. Create a European Court of Auditors, with the purpose of auditing EU finances.
These reforms were necessary following the implementation of the own resources budgetary system, which established the financial autonomy of the European Communities.
The Treaty entered into force on June 1, 1977.

1985

Opinion of the Committee on the Convening of a Conference of Representatives of the Governments of the Member States

With its Opinion of 22 July 1985, the European Commission expresses a positive stance regarding the convening of an Intergovernmental Conference aimed at amending and supplementing the Treaties establishing the European Communities.
