2011

Support for Employment from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund

László Andor, Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, presented the fourth annual report on the activities and results of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund during a press briefing. In 2010, nearly 23,700 workers who were laid off due to the economic crisis and major structural changes in global trade patterns were assisted by the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund in 2010, more than double the number of workers helped by the Fund in 2009. The 83.5 million euros paid out by the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund to nine Member States are intended to help national authorities as they support laid-off workers in finding new employment opportunities.

2021

Visit of Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, to Ukraine

From August 22 to 25, 2021, Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for an Economy that Works for People, was in Kyiv, where he visited, among others, the EU-funded project ‘EU Anti-Corruption Initiative’, the World War II Museum, the Summit of the International Crimea Platform, and the military parade for the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence.

2013

Visit of Commissioner Andris Piebalgs to Bolivia

Andris Piebalgs, the European Commissioner for Development, visited Bolivia from August 19 to 22, 2013. On August 22, he was in Oruro to sign an initial EU financial aid package for the SeLA project for the 2014-2020 period, which aims to provide drinking water to the residents of Bolivia.

2014

Launch of Galileo Satellites 5 and 6

Galileo, the EU’s satellite navigation program, has sent two more satellites into space, bringing the total number of satellites in orbit to 6. The launch took place at the European spaceport near Kourou in French Guiana. The launch marked another milestone for Galileo as a step towards the full deployment of a European satellite navigation system. These two satellites are the first of a new series that belongs entirely to the EU.
