Informal Meeting with the Heads of State of the Western Balkans
Johannes Hahn, member of the European Commission responsible for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, was in Durrës, Albania to participate in an informal meeting with the Prime Ministers of the Western Balkans , including Edi Rama, Prime Minister of Albania, Ramush Haradinaj, Prime Minister of Kosovo*, Duško Marković, Prime Minister of Montenegro, and Suma Chakrabarti, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Discussions during the meeting focused particularly on regional economic integration, including the Regional Economic Area (REA).
* This designation is without prejudice to positions on status, and is in line with UNSCR 1244/1999 and the ICJ Opinion on the Kosovo declaration of independence.

Visit of Petro Poroshenko, President of Ukraine, to Jean-Claude Juncker
Petro Poroshenko, President of Ukraine, visited Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, in Brussels. The two leaders discussed the latest developments in the Ukraine-Russia crisis and the status of the implementation of the Minsk Agreement. The -then recent- escalation of conflicts posed a threat to the peace agreement signed in February of the same year. They also talked about visa liberalization, the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA), which was part of the Association Agreement between the EU and the Republic of Ukraine, as well as the reform process undertaken by the Ukrainian authorities.

Visit of Ylva Johansson, European Commissioner, to the United States
From August 27 to September 2, 2021, Ylva Johansson, European Commissioner for Home Affairs, visited the USA. On August 27, in Washington, Ylva Johansson met with Alejandro Mayorkas, US Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security. Among other topics, they discussed the approach to addressing the situation in Afghanistan, following the G7 meeting on August 24 of the same year.
