Johannes Hahn, member of the European Commission responsible for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, was in Durrës, Albania to participate in an informal meeting with the Prime Ministers of the Western Balkans , including Edi Rama, Prime Minister of Albania, Ramush Haradinaj, Prime Minister of Kosovo*, Duško Marković, Prime Minister of Montenegro, and Suma Chakrabarti, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Discussions during the meeting focused particularly on regional economic integration, including the Regional Economic Area (REA).

The two leaders discussed the latest developments in the Ukraine-Russia crisis and the status of the implementation of the Minsk Agreement. The -then recent- escalation of conflicts posed a threat to the peace agreement signed in February of the same year. They also talked about visa liberalization, the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA), which was part of the Association Agreement between the EU and the Republic of Ukraine, as well as the reform process undertaken by the Ukrainian authorities.
