Helmut Kohl

German Chancellor who left a significant legacy by linking his political career with the Maastricht Treaty, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the end of the Cold War. Kohl served as chancellor for 16 years, the longest-serving German leader of the 20th century.
He was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Europe by the European Council in recognition of his exceptional work for European integration and cooperation, as well as his contribution to the European project.
